Part 1 — The book and its history
The Kybalion: A Study of the Hermetic Philosophy of Ancient Egypt and Greece was published in 1908 by the Yogi Publication Society, attributed to "Three Initiates." It presents itself as a digest of the teachings of Hermes Trismegistus — "Thrice-Greatest Hermes," the legendary Egyptian- Greek sage to whom the Hermetic tradition traces its origin (the same lineage as the Emerald Tablet, the Corpus Hermeticum, and the Hermetica generally).
The book is not ancient; it is an early-20th-century New Thought synthesis. But its power is practical, not historical: it condensed the Hermetic worldview into seven principles and a method — mental transmutation — that is strikingly compatible with what modern practice has since confirmed about the mind's influence on the body and circumstances. Daniel Moreno's video, "The Most Dangerous Book Ever Written About The Human Magnetic Mind," teaches exactly this: the mind as a magnet, and the danger of the book is its central claim — you are the cause of your life, not the victim of it.
Part 2 — Why this book is called "dangerous"
Because it says the opposite of what the world teaches:
- You are not the victim of circumstance — you are the cause. The life you live is the life your dominant mental state attracts.
- Your mind is a magnet. Thought is a vibration; like attracts like; the state you hold most becomes the reality you meet.
- You can change the magnet. By deliberate practice, the dominant state can be changed — and therefore the attracted life must change.
That is a dangerous idea to a person who believes they have no power, and
the most freeing idea to a person ready to use it. It is also the same claim
the Five Systems make in modern language: Neville's imagination creates
reality (02), Lipton's beliefs program biology (03), Dispenza's states
change the body (05). The Kybalion is the ancient statement of the same
law.
Part 3 — The Seven Principles
Principle 1: Mentalism
"The All is Mind; the Universe is Mental."
The teaching: The All — the ultimate reality behind all existence — is Mind. The universe, including you, is a mental creation of the All. Your material world is the dense end of a spectrum that begins in thought.
Why it matters: If the universe is mental, then your mind is not an observer of reality — it is a participant in its manufacture. The thought is the seed; the circumstance is the crop.
Daily application: This is why the Master Imagination Script (13) is
read nightly — the inner picture is the cause; the outer life is the effect.
Hold the end-state in mind daily, and the universe reorganizes around it.
Your morning meditation is not escape from the world; it is editing the
blueprint.
Principle 2: Correspondence
"As above, so below; as below, so above."
The teaching: There is always a correspondence between the laws of the various planes of being — the inner world mirrors the outer world, the atom mirrors the galaxy, the thought mirrors the event.
Why it matters: Because the macro mirrors the micro, you never need to change the big thing directly. Change the small thing — the daily state — and the big thing must follow the pattern.
Daily application: Work on the inner and the outer follows — one practice daily changes the week; a changed week changes the year. The "below" (your habits) mirrors the "above" (your results). Fix the below. When you want to know the state of the "above," examine the "below" honestly: your results are a mirror of your inner life.
Principle 3: Vibration
"Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates."
The teaching: Nothing is at rest — matter, emotion, and thought are all vibration at different rates. High states (gratitude, love, clarity) vibrate at a different frequency than low states (fear, doubt, hurry). Like frequencies attract like.
Why it matters: You cannot fake your way into a new life while holding a low vibration — the frequency must actually change. And it can: vibration is movable by practice.
Daily application: Dispenza's whole protocol (05) is this principle in
action — raise the state, and the body and circumstances re-tune. Your Surya
Namaskar and breathing practice is a vibration practice; you are literally
changing frequency, and the environment responds to frequency.
Principle 4: Polarity
"Everything is dual; everything has poles; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled."
The teaching: Everything has two poles — and the poles are the same thing at different degrees. Fear and courage are one energy; hot and cold are one phenomenon; love and hate are the same current flowing in opposite directions.
Why it matters: You never destroy a negative state — you transmute it by shifting its degree. This is the master key to self-change: nothing is removed; everything is converted.
Daily application: The master technique — mental transmutation. When fear is present, do not fight it; raise the same energy toward courage by changing the mental picture. Fear of the future becomes anticipation of the future by a small deliberate shift in attention. The energy is the same; the degree and direction are yours to set.
Principle 5: Rhythm
"Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum-swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates."
The teaching: Life swings — good days and bad days, energy and fatigue, success and setback. The pendulum is law, not accident. The swing to the right is always matched by the swing to the left.
Why it matters: The swing itself cannot be stopped — but you can stop riding it. The Kybalion's method for this is the law of neutralization: plant yourself in the opposite pole of the swing, and the pendulum passes beneath you instead of carrying you.
Daily application: Two moves. First, expect the swing so it loses its power (a bad day is the pendulum, not a verdict). Second, when the swing is down, plant yourself in the opposite pole through the practice — gratitude on the heavy day, stillness on the frantic day, action on the sluggish day. The pendulum still swings; you no longer ride it.
Principle 6: Cause and Effect
"Every cause has its effect; every effect has its cause; everything happens according to law; chance is but a name for law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the law."
The teaching: Nothing is random. "Luck" is a law you have not yet mapped. There are many planes of causation — the visible events you attribute to chance are often the effects of invisible causes (states, beliefs, habits) you have not yet examined.
Why it matters: Cause and effect is the only principle that seems to leave you powerless — until you realize you can choose causes. You cannot choose your current effects, but you are choosing your future causes right now, daily.
Daily application: Your current life is the effect; your daily state is
the cause. This is karma understood mechanically (see 14). Stop auditing
effects; start choosing causes — the morning practice is a cause, the day is
the effect. The person who controls their daily state controls their
trajectory.
Principle 7: Gender
"Gender is in everything; everything has its masculine and feminine principles; gender manifests on all planes."
The teaching: Everything contains two poles of creative energy: the masculine (initiate, direct, act) and the feminine (receive, imagine, nurture). Creation — on every plane — requires both. The masculine alone acts without direction; the feminine alone imagines without manifestation.
Why it matters: Most people are lopsided — all imagination or all action. The art is the marriage: the feminine conceives, the masculine delivers.
Daily application: The feminine imagines the end-state (the nightly
script 13); the masculine acts on it (the daily walk, the tracker 12).
The practice that only imagines never lands; the practice that only acts has
nothing to aim at. Both poles daily — that is the whole art.
Part 4 — Mental Transmutation: the master technique
The Kybalion's unique contribution is not the principles but the art: mental transmutation — the deliberate changing of one mental state into another.
The formula:
- Recognize the present state — name it precisely (fear, boredom, agitation, doubt).
- Find its opposite pole — fear ↔ courage, boredom ↔ interest, agitation ↔ calm, doubt ↔ clarity. (Polarity)
- Hold the opposite image with feeling — not by fighting the present state, but by attending to the new one. Attention is the switch; feeling is the current.
- Sustain it — one minute of full attention to the new pole is a working transmutation; the state shifts by degree, exactly as the principle says.
Why this is the "dangerous" skill: because it is the skill that makes every other practice work. The person who can transmute a state on demand cannot be held by circumstance — the mood is a pole, and they hold the switch.
Part 5 — The Magnetic Mind: the practical synthesis
As Daniel Moreno's video teaches it, the Kybalion's core practice:
- What you hold in mind, you attract — the mind is a magnet, not a
spectator. Therefore, guard the dominant thought of the day: one clear
end-state, repeatedly held (this library's
13). - The state is the magnet's charge — a thought without feeling is a weak magnet. Thought + feeling = full charge (this library's feeling is the carrier).
- Transmute, never fight — unwanted states are energy at the wrong pole; raise or shift the degree rather than resisting it (Polarity + Rhythm).
- Rhythm is usable — ride the upswing with action, plant the downswing with practice (neutralization).
- Daily repetition is the law — a magnet is always on; an intermittent practice is an intermittent magnet. Daily practice is the only "secret."
Part 6 — Where the principles live in this library
| Principle | The system that runs on it |
|---|---|
| Mentalism | Master Imagination Script (13) — inner picture as cause |
| Correspondence | Tracker (12) — inner streak, outer results |
| Vibration | Dispenza (05) — state change as frequency change |
| Polarity | Coué (04) — affirmations transmute the inner talk |
| Rhythm | Combined practice (07/09) — structure for the swing |
| Cause & Effect | Goal workbook (06) — causes chosen daily |
| Gender | The five systems as one: imagine (feminine) + act (masculine) |
Part 7 — The Hermetic axioms (quick reference)
- "The lips of wisdom are closed, except to the ears of Understanding"
- "As above, so below; as below, so above"
- "To change your mood or mental state — change your vibration"
- "Mind (as well as metals and elements) may be transmuted from state to state, degree to degree"
- "Rhythm may be neutralized by the art of Polarization"
- "Nothing escapes the Principle of Cause and Effect, but there are many planes of causation"
- "The whole is in the part, and the part is in the whole"
⚑ Micro-details
- Recite the seven principles once, slowly, at the start of the morning sit — thirty seconds that frame the whole day
- Mental transmutation drill: when a heavy state arrives, name its opposite and hold the opposite image for one full minute — that is Polarity practiced, not theorized
- The dangerous part is the first principle; everything else is how to use it
